Marianna Kavanagh
MA Counselling Psychology
Child & Trauma Therapist
RCC #6438
Specializing in therapy for children of all ages and adults affected by trauma
Marianna is a Canadian Certified Counsellor (#6438) and has been in private practice for over 10 years. She works with individuals of all ages and has extensive experience working with children and youth. Marianna’s specialization is in the areas of grief and loss, depression, anxiety, anger, self-esteem, relationships issues, and spiritual concerns.
Marianna is honoured by the opportunity to listen to a person’s story, to hear what has brought them to this present place, and to help them unravel the challenges they are currently facing. As pain becomes a part of everyone’s story at some point in their journey, it’s beneficial to have someone who can offer to be a guide. She considers it to be a privilege to be able to assume such a role. She trusts you will find her to be a compassionate, caring and gentle person as—together—you walk the path toward helping you experience greater freedom and healing in your life.
Her approach is to seek to gain an understanding of the whole person, from a bio-psycho-social and spiritual perspective (i.e., the mind-body-spirit connection and how that influences all of our relationships). Marianna works primarily from an Emotionally Focused Therapy approach, looking for the emotion behind the emotion and to the attachment issues that form the basis of this therapy. She also works from a person-centred perspective and incorporates aspects of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Play Therapy in her work.
